WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, Manhattan — Washington Heights and Inwood are two neighboring Manhattan communities with a lot in common. Both areas are home to large, young immigrant and minority populations, and both are under served when it comes to resources.

This issue was only magnified when the coronavirus pandemic impacted New York City hard in March, hitting low-income communities particularly hard.

Now, two homegrown organizations have come together to help bring some relief to local families in need.

Washington Heights-based non-profit Fresh Youth Initiatives and Latin food-delivery app Traiilo have teamed up in an effort to fight food insecurity in their communities.

PIX11s Marysol Castro spoke with Traiilo founder and Washington Heights native Jose Salcedo, as well as FYI's Maria Herrera about the new initiative.

If you want to help out their efforts, head to now.
