HACKENSACK, NJ — The last time Reggie Mitchell saw his barber, it was March.
“I have this hat on and I am afraid to show anybody what’s under this,” Mitchell jokingly told PIX11.
Thankfully, Mitchell is in good hands and his barber Carlos Santacruz is up for the challenge.
Carlos, along with his brother Jaime, are the duo behind Jaime Carlos Barbershop & Nail Salon in Hackensack.
The family operation has been making clients look and feel their best for more than a decade, but the coronavirus pandemic took a toll on business. It forced the brothers to dip into their savings to stay afloat.
“It was very hard, but at the same time, our lives are more important than the money,” Jaime Santacruz said.
The business is now back up and running, implementing new safety guidelines, which include taking temperatures upon arrival, plexi-glass dividers to help keep distance and mandatory masks.
The goal is to keep both the customer and workers safe.
“We’re going to give you 100%,” Carlos Santacruz said. “We’re going to make it nice for you, you know if you come with your big hair we’re going to make that nice too.“
