JAMAICA, Queens — For Sadek Rahman and his staff at Adana Türkish Grill on Hillside Avenue in Jamaica, the past three months have been challenging to say the least.
“As a new business, survival is a must and giving up was not an option,” Rahman told PIX11.
The Queens business was barely a year old when the pandemic prompted a statewide shutdown, forcing it to close its doors — but not it’s heart.
“We were fortunate enough to collaborate with a Catholic Church behind us, and an Islamic center not far from us,” he said. “At this time you know, there is no religion in hunger.”
While navigating an array of obstacles, Rahman and his team chose to put community over profit, donating more than a thousand meals to front line workers.
Their mission to give back is an ongoing one. The restaurant has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for a mobile pantry that will serve the community all year round.
What sets Adana apart from other eateries on Hillside Avenue is their flavorful and hearty meals that only a traditional Turkish menu can offer.
As part of a special promotion for PIX11 viewers, if you follow Adana Türkish Grill on Instagram @adanaturkishgrillnyc and then message them with #PIX11, you’ll get a free grilled sandwich with fries the next time you come in.
