Building self-confidence in her clientele was always a priority for business owner and mother-of-three, Yelitza Liranzo.
After growing up with a keen interest in party planning, Liranzo was eager to open Glitter & Glam, a party and spa destination for kids, in Paramus, New Jersey.
Founded in December of 2016, the spa specializes in making every girl’s dream come true with themed birthday parties that promote the development of self-care practices for kids at an early age.
“Our mission has always been to build self-confidence in young girls,” Liranzo said.
Girls ages four to 12 visit Glitter & Glam with their families for a day of pretty-in-pink manicures that prove that a little sparkle can go a long way.
In fact, Liranzo makes it a priority that her clients leave the spa brimming with self confidence.
“We want our girls to feel confident in the decisions that they make, starting with the nail polish color they want,” Liranzo said. “We always encourage the parents to let their kids make decisions for themselves.”
Now, with three locations in Jersey and what would have been their busiest time of the year, Liranzo never imagined she’d have to close her doors indefinitely due to the global pandemic.
“We take our birthday parties very seriously because the kids are looking forward to it,” Liranzo said. “So having to close was tough because canceling parties has never happened with us.”
With party planning being the bulk of her business, Liranzo admitted that times became tough due to the amount of refunds she had to issue to customers.
“We had a lot of party deposits and refunds that we needed to give back, which generated a huge loss for us,” Liranzo said. “It was heartbreaking to a lot of birthday girls that we weren't able to give this party to because Glitter & Glam is a big deal to them.”
Although things remain challenging for Liranzo and her business, she’s hopeful for the weeks to come as businesses across the country prepare to reopen.
Today, Liranzo says that she and her team are staying up to date on all CDC guidelines and discussing new rules to ensure the safety of the staff and customers once she’s able to reopen her doors.
Instead of providing services that may require close contact with kids, the team is looking to offer party packages that allow the kids to be hands-on without contact. This would include arts and crafts activities, writing cards to one another, and more.
And as one of the countless business owners ready to bounce back from the global pandemic, the Glitter & Glam founder leaves this message of hope for her New Jersey residents:
“We are going through something very difficult but I think it’s very important to know that there’s plenty of hope. For us business owners, our teams are looking to us and it’s time to show them that we got this.”
