NEW YORK — Have you spotted some adorable stuffed koala bears around New York City?
The furry friends popped up around the city Friday and they aren't just fun to look at, but are helping with relief and rebuilding for Australia as wildfires rage across the continent.
Rachel Mitrani and Diane Villavieja started the "Koalas of NYC" initiative and associated GoFundMe fundraising page to try to help out from the other side of the world.
Each koala placed around the city has a tag that contains information and a QR code that leads directly to the GoFundMe page where people can donate.
Money raised through the fundraiser goes directly to NSW Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service, or WIRES, the largest wildlife rescue and rehabilitation charity in Australia.
