NEW YORK — Former New York Giants QB became one of sports' highest-profile holdouts to finally join Twitter and on his first day, immediately faced a familiar foe.
Eli, who has already garnered 144,000 followers since early Saturday, wrote "to paraphrase Jimmy Chitwood, 'I don’t know if it’ll make any change, but I figure it’s time for me to start playing social media'," in a reference to the famous film "Hoosiers."
That's when Manning's two-time Super Bowl nemesis, Tom Brady, got involved. Brady tweeted "Welcome @EliManning, In typical fashion, you never showed up until the 4th quarter anyway."
This is a reference to Brady and Manning's two Super Bowl battles, in which Eli led two fourth quarter comebacks to lead the Giants to two victories over Brady's New England Patriots.
Manning, in a reference to Brady's golf match against his brother Peyton and Tiger Woods with Phil Mickelson Sunday, clapped back "Hope your golf game is as polished as your Twitter game. Don’t hit it in the lumberyard."

Ultimately, Eli seemed please with his first day on the site.
"What a welcome - thanks everyone," he wrote.
