THE BRONX — Parents and teachers are fearful about the start of the school year in New York City.

Parent Advocate Angela Torres, who has served as PTA President for District 8, currently serves as the Youth & Education committee for District 10.

Torres said ventilation systems haven't been upgraded in all the schools across the Bronx, and there's a shortage of custodial staff to make sure that schools are disinfected properly to allow students to return to school buildings by the start of the new academic year.

Torres and the parents she represents support delaying the start of the school year to October or even later to make sure that both students and teachers will not be put at risk for catching COVID-19.
