NEW YORK — As the designated emergency responder for the city’s seniors, Citymeals on Wheels is working on the front lines of the COVID-19 outbreak to ensure older New Yorkers have nourishing meals during this public health crisis.
Beth Shapiro, executive director of Citymeals on Wheels, spoke to PIX11 Morning News about the recent influx in how many people they’re feeding.
Citymeals has already delivered 150,000 emergency meals to older New Yorkers across the five boroughs and is now preparing and delivering an additional 300,000 emergency meals to meet the growing demand. To address this unprecedented challenge, Citymeals has doubled its warehouse staff and is relying on hundreds of volunteers to pack boxes and bags for delivery across the city.
