LOWER EAST SIDE, Manhattan — Charlene Richardson is a Mother of six from the Lower East Side who lives at the Gompers Houses and reached out to PIX11 on Facebook.

Richardson says her home is toxic for her children.

“It’s ludicrous how they want me to live. I pay rent and it looks like a war zone disaster. You can barely breathe,” said Richardson.

Since September, Richardson says nychaNYCHA took down her wall to do repairs and never came back to finish the work.

“I’m pulling tiles off the floor this is not how I should be living. This is horrible,” said Richardson.

Richardson showed us paperwork dating back to 2016 for her bathroom and 2017 for her kitchen.

Richardson says hours after PIX11 visited her home she says she got a call from NYCHA and they promise to fix her home and relocate her til repairs are complete.

“NCYHA, along with local elected officials, has repeatedly attempted to assist Ms. Richardson and gain access to her apartment to make the necessary repairs," a rep for NYCHA told PIX11 in a statement.

"We have also twice responded to her requests for relocation by offering potential apartments, which she rejected. NYCHA staff went again today to Ms. Richardson’s apartment to schedule repairs, which she refused. We will continue to attempt working with the resident on repairs or relocation.”
