MASPETH, Queens — A 68-year-old woman was struck and killed in Queens Friday evening, police said.
Authorities responded to a call of a pedestrian struck in the vicinity of 58th Road and Queens Midtown Expressway just before 5:30 p.m.
Officers arrived to find Yulan Lu on the roadway with trauma to her head and body. She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to police.
Investigation determined a white 2020 Chevrolet Express van operated by 33-year-old George Guzman was traveling in the right lane of the eastbound Queens Midtown Expressway when he made a right turn onto 58th Road and struck Lu, police said.
Upon impact, she was thrown into the roadway and was struck by another vehicle, authorities said.
Guzman remained at the scene was taken into custody. He faces charges of motor vehicle failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to use due care, causing serious injury.
