RICHMOND HILL, Queens — A man allegedly attacked his girlfriend as she sat beside their sick child in a Queens hospital, officials said Thursday.
The mother was in a room with her 6-month-old daughter and fell asleep on Sunday, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said. Alexander Fitzpatrick, the child's father, was standing over her when she woke up.
"She was awakened by her boyfriend, who allegedly stood over her with a sharp instrument and then slashed her in both her arm and face requiring 120 stitches," Katz said.
The 25-year-old mom suffered deep wounds to her left arm and her face, which extended from her ear to her nose.
Fitzpatrick, 24, was arraigned Wednesday morning on charges of first-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child. He's set to be back in court on Jan. 10 and faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
