JACKSON HEIGHTS, Queens — New York City enters Phase 2 of reopening on Monday.

That means hair salons and barbershops can reopen if they follow safety guidelines; it also means restaurants can take customers again too but only if they have the space for outdoor seating.

People in Jackson Heights took advantage of this summer-like night with music and drinks on the street, without masks and social distancing.

Phase 2 means up to 300,000 New Yorkers will be able to get back to work if they work in the city.

Commercial building management, hair salons and barbershops, outdoor and take-out food services, business and real estate offices, in-store retail, vehicle sales, and, retail rental, repair and cleaning all get back to work.

Still, while lots of businesses will be able to take customers beginning Monday, many in smaller communities won’t be able to, because they don’t have the outdoor space, and putting tables on sidewalks is not allowed, and isn’t pedestrian-friendly.
