MORRIS PLAINS, N.J. — A 61-year-old man has been charged in New Jersey with a sex assault and criminal sexual contact against an 82-year-old woman at an assisted living facility, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said Saturday.

The incident allegedly happened Friday, when Anthony Ligon was working as a maintenance technician at the Arbor Terrace Senior Living Facility. The victim lives at the facility.

Ligon is currently being held at the Morris County Correctional Facility.

The company that runs Arbor Terrace has suspended Ligon.

"At Arbor Terrace Morris Plains, we take any allegation of misconduct seriously and do not tolerate any form of abuse," a spokesperson told PIX11 News in a statement. "While we cannot provide details on the alleged incident because there is an ongoing investigation, what we can tell you is that we acted swiftly, immediately calling the police, notifying the resident’s family, suspending the staff member in question and reporting the allegation to the New Jersey Department of Health. We are working with local authorities to ensure a thorough investigation."

Prosecutor Frederic M. Knapp says the investigation is ongoing.

"Our top priority is always the safety and well-being of the residents entrusted to our care, they are our family," the spokesperson added.
