JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Two women have been charged and a man is still being sought in connection with the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old Jersey City girl earlier this month, prosecutors said Saturday.
Tyeah Garner was shot in the head just after 10:30 p.m. on July 6 on Rutgers Avenue near New Street in Jersey City, officials said. She died the next morning at Jersey City Medical Center.
Heavenley Cherry, 19, is accused of pulling the trigger on Garner, according to the prosecutor’s office. She is charged with murder, murder as an accomplice, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Jahquell Carter, 24, of Jersey City, was charged with murder as an accomplice, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and unlawful possession of a weapon, but he remains at large.
The third suspect, 19-year-old Izmae Tinker-Trent, of Jersey City, is charged with hindering a murder investigation, officials said. She is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
Cherry, of Jersey City, is detained at the Bergen County Youth Detention Center on an unrelated case, according to the prosecutor’s office.
