Off-duty NYPD officer injured by metal bike chain

LOWER MANHATTAN — A man is wanted in connection with an assault on an off-duty police officer in Lower Manhattan Tuesday.

The incident happened at 3:10 p.m. at the Park Place subway station. He threw a metal bike chain at the 37-year old victim. It struck her in the face as she stood on a northbound 2 train that was stopped in the station.

The man then entered the train and fled when it stopped at Chambers Street. EMS responded and took the victim to New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital, where she was treated for swelling and bruising.

The suspect is described as approximately 6-feet-2-inches and 200 pounds.
