Man fatally shot in hell's Kitchen crashes when trying to drive to hospital

HELL'S KITCHEN, Manhattan — A man is dead after he was shot, tried to drive himself to the hospital but then crashed his SUV in Hell's Kitchen early Thursday, according to police.

Authorities said the 31-year-old man was shot in the back around 1:30 a.m. during a dispute at a bodega near West 51st Street and 10th Avenue.

The man jumped into his SUV in an attempt to flee and apparently drive himself to the hospital, police said.

However, officials said the wounded man ended up crashing his car about a block later into the side of the Potamkin Cadillac car dealership on West 50th Street, between 11th and 10th avenues.

The victim was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later, authorities said.

According to police, the man's car had New York state government plates but said they were either fraudulent or stolen.

The identity of the victim not not been released, but officials confirmed he was not a state or government employee.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
