EAST HARLEM, Manhattan — A 64-year-old woman, who was in a coma after being assaulted and raped in East Harlem in May, has died, the NYPD confirmed.
Her death has been ruled a homicide.
The NYPD said Friday that the woman died on May 27, just over a week after the savage attack left her in a medically induced coma.
Police previously arrested 38-year-old Frankie Harris, of Brooklyn, on May 23, hitting him with charges including attempted murder, rape, strangulation and sex abuse.
According to police, the man came up behind the woman on East 111th Street, putting her in a headlock before throwing her to the ground and sexually assaulting her.
With the woman's death now being ruled a homicide, he could face additional charges. There is no official information at this time on new or escalated charges.
