Suffolk County experiencing issues with 911 emergency calls on Long Island

SUFFOLK COUNTY, L.I. — Suffolk County Police said the county's 911 emergency call system was experiencing issues Tuesday morning.

According to the Suffolk Counthy Police Department, the system began seeing errors around 3:25 a.m., but said the 911 system remains functional due to backup protocols.

In response, some towns have asked residents to temporarily use alternate numbers if they are unable to get through using 911 for emergencies.

The Southhampton Town Police Department asked the public to call (631) 702-2273 or (631) 702-2223 until the 911 system is fully restored.

Riverhead Police have asked residents to call (631) 727-4500, extension 352 or 602, for emergency calls temporarily.
