Decomposed body found in Harlem: police

COMMACK, N.Y. — New York State Police said Wednesday they're investigating a Trooper-involved shooting on the Northern State Parkway near the Sagtilos State Parkway in Suffolk County.

Authorities said police responded to a call for a person with a weapon on the Meadowbrook Parkway at about 2:20 p.m.

A short time later another call came in describing the same vehicle, a Mercedes SUV, on the Northern State Parkway near exit 39, saying the SUV's driver had what appeared to be an assault rifle, officials said.

Around 3:07 p.m. a state trooper was stationary on the Northern State Parkway near exit 42 when the SUV sped by.

When the driver of the Mercedes failed to stop, a brief pursuit ensued before the SUV stopped in the road and the driver exited the vehicle with a rifle pointing toward responding troopers, authorities said.

The driver was shot by the troopers and taken into custody before being airlifted to a local hospital for treatment. Troopers on the scene were not injured.

All lanes of the Northern State Parkway have reopened after being temporarily shut down in both directions at the Sagtilos State Parkway Wednesday.
