LYNBROOK, L.I. — A member of the Nassau Kings Wheelchair Basketball Team was surprised with a new specialized chair on Thursday at Lynbrook Restorative Therapy and Nursing.

Chris St. Remy, 30, is the shooting guard for the team but he was almost forced to give up playing after his old wheelchair could no longer be repaired.

So the team and members of the amputee community came together to gift him with what they call the “Porsche of wheelchairs.”

“It was difficult to play on the court constantly worrying about your chair while you’re thinking about the game,” Remy said. “I can’t wait to get in the chair and practice.”

The Nassau Kings Wheelchair Basketball Team is ranked fourth in the nation, and Remy is one of the premiere three-point shooters on the East Coast.

The team is heading to Wichita, Kansas in March to compete in the 49th annual Wheelchair Basketball National Championship.
