Man arrested for stealing tanker truck from Suffolk gas station: police

RONKONKOMA, N.Y. — A man has been arrested after stealing an 18-wheeler tanker truck from a gas station in Ronkonkoma, police said.

Welsey Shurman, 23, took a parked 2018 Peterbilt Motors tanker truck from a gas station Veterans Memorial Highway. An employee called 911 and police found the 18-wheeler on Portion Road in Farmingville. The officer followed the truck which stopped after crashing into a stop sign on Stuyvesant Drive in Seldon.

Shulman was arrested and charged with second degree grand larceny, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and several vehicle and traffic violations.

Shurman has previously been arrested for criminal possession and has six bench warrants. He will be arraigned tomorrow at First District Court in Central Islip.
