BETHPAGE, NY — Community members celebrated a World War II veteran's 100th birthday Tuesday with a parade in front of her home.
Irene Haber served as a US Army nurse and then worked as a nurse at Plainview Hospital when it first opened. The hospital organized the parade of staff members, veterans, police officers and firefighters.
"They should have a parade like this for everybody for every birthday really," Haber's son said.
Haber was also given a plaque and flowers at her Bethpage home.
"I have a lot of people that love me and that's nice," Haber said.
