Archaeologists hope to save LI home once owned by free slave

Long Island officials are trying to save part of a home that was owned by freed slave in the 1800s.

HUNTINGTON, L.I. — Archaeological digging began Friday at a historical home on Long Island once owned in the 1800s by a freed slave.

Friday, town officials were trying to save the original part of the owned by Peter Crippen and use it as part of a museum.
