UNIONDALE, NY — Police arrested a group of teens on gang assault charges for a Uniondale attack outside a school, officials said Monday.
The alleged attackers, who have not been named because of their ages, are accused of stabbing a 15-year-old boy and hitting him in the head with a baseball bat after he left school near Walnut Street and Leslie Lane on Jan. 8, officials said.
The victim was hospitalized in serious condition after the beating.
Police arrested three 15-year-olds, a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old from Uniondale between Jan. 9 and Sunday. They were arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead. All of them were charged with assault and gang assault.
The Uniondale High School security team intervened to stop the fight from escalating, Superintendent of Schools Dr. William Lloyd said.
"The safety of our students, staff and community is the Uniondale School District's foremost priority," Llyod said.
