The victim was in front of a residential building near 64th Street and Ninth Avenue just before 11 p.m. when a man attacked with an unknown substance, officials said. He hadn't interacted with the victim at all before the assault.

The man fled westbound on 64th Street and the woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police have asked for help identifying the man. He was last seen with a face mask, gloves, a black hooded sweater, light colored sweatpants and light colored sneakers.
