CYPRESS HILLS, Brooklyn — A man was shot Monday night at the same park in Brooklyn where a triple shooting left two teen boys dead and another hospitalized just the day before.
According to police, the 22-year-old man was struck in the shoulder when gunfire erupted around 10:30 p.m. at George Walker Jr. Park in the Cypress Hills area.
The Daily News reported the man was wounded as he attended a vigil Monday night for the two boys who were fatally shot Sunday, but police could not confirm that information.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
The three teens were playing basketball at the park Sunday around 6:40 p.m. when an unidentified man opened fire from the sunroof of a Honda CRV driving by, authorities said.
A 16-year-old boy, identified by police as Kleimer P. Mendez, was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
An 18-year-old identified as Antonio Villa was also struck in the head and was initially rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. However he died of his injuries Monday, police said.
The third victim, an unidentified 17-year-old boy, was shot in the leg and hospitalized.
The shooting are the latest in a string of gun violence plaguing the city in recent months.
