RED HOOK, Brooklyn — A Long Island man was arraigned Wednesday on charges he strangled his pregnant girlfriend, discarded her body in front of her Red Hook home and abandoned their toddler son on a stranger's doorstep in Queens.

Tatiana Walton's body was found on the ground around 2 a.m. on Jan. 28, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said. Less than an hour later, Kelvin Philip was caught on Ring doorball camera leaving their 2-year-old son on a stranger's doorstep in Jackson Heights.

“The alleged actions of this defendant – who’s charged with killing the pregnant mother of his child and abandoning his son – were truly shocking and appalling," District Attorney Gonzalez said. "We will never tolerate any type of intimate partner violence in Brooklyn and I am committed to prosecuting such cases vigorously and to hold violent abusers like this defendant responsible.”

Walton was five months pregnant at the time of her death.

Philip was charged with second-degree murder and abandonment of a child, officials said. He was ordered held without bail and is scheduled to be back in court on April 2.

He faces up to life in prison if convicted.
