BROOKLYN — Full power has been almost fully restored to areas of Brooklyn where Con Edison asked tens of thousands of its customers to conserve energy while company crews repair equipment.
The energy company reduced 8% in the west side of the borough to help protect equipment and maintain service while repairs are made.
The area includes about 96,600 customers in the Carroll Gardens, Park Slope, Sunset Park, Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Borough Park neighborhoods.
Mayor Bill de Blaiso warned he electric supply was in danger in those neighborhoods.
"Everyone, please take this warning seriously, please act on it, and we will do everything in our power, and we will push Con Ed hard to resolve this situation quickly," he said.
Customers had been asked not to use energy-intensive appliances including washers, dryers and microwaves until repairs are complete. Limiting unnecessary use of air conditioning is also advised.
By late Thursday night, officials said power had been almost fully restored, with the complete restoration expected sometime overnight.
