MOTT HAVEN, the Bronx — About 10 buses full of New York City public housing residents left the Bronx early Thursday, heading to Albany to make their voices heard as lawmakers meet for a state budget hearing.
Tenants' message to state legislators is straight forward: NYCHA needs more funding and residents should know how the money is being allocated.
NYCHA's budget has been chronically underfunded by billions since 2001.
When Gov. Andrew Cuomo proposed his state budget it did not include any new funding for NYCHA, and federal funding has traditionally not kept pace with the increased cost of living.
