NEW HYDE PARK — It doesn't matter what song you listen to, music has the capability to change your mood.
PIX11 News got to see that firsthand at Cohen's Children's Medical Center where the music therapist spread cheer to both children and their parents who are spending their holiday in the hospital.
It's a winter wonderland at Cohen's Children's Medical Center and the scene is set for some Christmas carols.
Shawna Vernisie is the music therapist at the hospital. She travels room to room lifting spirits.
And today she's having a sing along with children and their parents who are spending the holidays in the hospital.
“We try to bring a lot of joy during the holidays. it's so important to have these experiences for kids.”
Dr. Peter Silver, the medical director at Cohen's, says it's events like this that touch everyone's heart here at the hospital.
“There is nothing better than making kids smile, making them feel good and bringing joy during the holidays.”
