HANOVER, PA — A woman intentionally coughed on more than $35,000 worth of produce, baked goods and meat at a grocery store, the owner wrote on Facebook.

Workers at Gerrity's Supermarket in Hanover, along with a health inspector, identified every area the woman was in and disposed of the products, store owner Joe Fasula wrote. They cleaned everything.

"While there is little doubt this woman was doing it as a very twisted prank, we will not take any chances with the health and well-being of our customers," owner Joe Fasula wrote. "We had no choice but to throw out all product she came in contact with."

Fasula said he was sick over the loss of food.

"While it is always a shame when food is wasted, in these times when so many people are worried about the security of our food supply, it is even more disturbing," he said.

Officials do not believe the woman, who "police know to be a chronic problem in the community," actually has coronavirus, Fasula wrote.
