NEW YORK — The rate of people infected with COVID-19 is putting a strain on our healthcare workers. Former Secret Service Agent for Pres. Barack Obama, Evy Poumpourus, said we have not been proactive.
Poumpourus said being proactive would have been taking action when the first few people in the country were infected.
One of the missteps the country did was sending coronavirus-infected people back home, who would then spread the disease to their loved ones.
We are currently at a “reactive” phase, according to Poumpourus, who was also a 9/11 first responder.
She urges everyone to stay home and practice the guidelines officials have been implementing to help stop the spread.
She is also reminding everyone that even though they are asymptomatic, they might still pass the illness to someone else.
When asked what she thinks about Pres. Trump looking to have the country up and ready by Easter, Poumpourus said it’s not certain to say whether or not the United States will be ready — it depends what everyone is doing as a community and society.
Poumpourus is also reminding everyone to take care of themselves. Although everyone is taking a “pause” on everything, other illnesses don’t.
