MERRICK, L.I. — In the past, Merrick Avenue Middle School social studies teacher Matt Chicco has let the top two fundraising students shave his head during the district’s St. Baldrick’s campaign which raises money to fight cancer.

The April 22 event was canceled this year due to the COVID-19-related school closures.

Now, the two winning students have found a socially distant way to make that happen by using a 6-foot paint pole extender with a buzzer attached at the end to shave their teacher’s head.
