SUFFOLK COUNTY — A number of Fourth of July party goers in Suffolk County were infected with coronavirus after at least one sick person attended the party, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday.
In the days since the party, 35 percent of the people who attended have tested positive for COVID-19, Cuomo said.
"It only takes one person at one party," Cuomo tweeted.
County Executive Steve Bellone said Tuesday that more than 102 people tested positive for coronavirus. It's the first time more than 100 people have tested positive in a single day in the county since March.
"We've come too far to move in the other direction," Bellone said. "The numbers are moving in the wrong direction."
Approximately 42 percent of the positive cases the county has seen since June 24 involve people age 30 and under, Bellone said.
"We know they spread it and it can affect more vulnerable people that they know and love," he said.
