ICE detainee at Bergen County jail tests positive for COVID-19

HACKENSACK, N.J. — A man being detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement in New Jersey has tested positive for coronavirus, according to a press release.

The man is a 31-year-old Mexican national, according to an ICE spokesperson. They're being held in custody at the Bergen County jail in Hackensack. The individual has been quarantined and is "receiving care."

ICE has started monitoring those who came into contact with the man in custody. They are suspending intake at the Bergen County jail until they have further information.

No county in New Jersey has more cases of COVID-19 than Bergen, where 701 people have tested positive for the virus.
