Grandfather, NJ Transit conductor dies of COVID-19 complications

NEW JERSEY — A New Jersey Transit conductor died of complications related to novel coronavirus, Gov. Phil Murphy said Wednesday.

Joe Hansen worked as a conductor on the Raritan Valley Line for more than 20 years, Murphy said. His son Brian followed him into the rail yards and is a mechanic for NJ Transit.

Hansen was 62.

"All of us at NJ TRANSIT mourn the tragic and untimely loss of conductor Joe Hansen from complications related to COVID19," the agency tweeted. "Joe positively impacted many lives as he served customers for more than 20 years. Joe was a well-loved member of the NJT family, and he will be deeply missed."
