JAMAICA, Queens — Doctors have called what happened to a Brooklyn mom a miracle.
Tasnim Shaheen gave birth while fighting COVID-19 and relying on a ventilator. She was healthy enough to go home Monday.
Jamaica Hospital Medical Center celebrated the 42-year-old mom's discharge.
She contracted coronavirus six months into her pregnancy and relied on a ventilator for a month. Doctors, unsure if she or her baby would live, decided to deliver the baby early to try to save both of their lives.
On April 22, Reeda was born three. Three days after her delivery, Shaheen's condition improved enough for her to be taken off a ventilator. She'll continue physical therapy at home.
Her daughter will stay at the hospital a little while longer, but doctors said she is expected to be just fine.
