BROOKLYN — The Atlantic 10 Tournament scheduled to be played at the Barclays Center without an audience, is the latest major sporting event to be canceled amid novel coronavirus concerns.
According to the limited number of team-related personnel inside the arena, an announcement was made shortly before the noon tip-off of day two action.
The cancellation comes following the NBA suspending action Wednesday night.
The National Hockey League (NHL), which shares many venues with the NBA, is expected to make more decisions later Thursday.
As of now, the Big East men’s basketball tournament being played at Madison Square Garden, is still underway. However, It is being played without spectators from the general public.
A graduate assistant for Virginia Commonwealth University, one of the teams in the A10, said he was frankly surprised things were not called off sooner.
