Jessica Herrin runs Stella & Dot Brands, which has sold more than $1 billion in fashion and beauty products.
“But it's so much more than about product, we're really a mission-based company to reinvent flexible based earnings for women,” Herrin said.
Queen of the side hustle, she has helped women earn more than $500 million.
“When I think about how we started helping people earn money, they largely did in person events and sold products and got commission,” Herrin said. “Now people want to share and shop online, but without digital tools, it felt too much like spam and posting, not enough like personal service and demonstration.”
The new app for Stella & Dot Brands bridges that gap, letting women share recommendations to potential customers. But Herrin said her goal is really to empower women.
“It's far more rewarding for me to shine the light on other people and watch them thrive as a leader an entrepreneur,” Herrin said. “My real passion is to help women earn and learn on their own terms. You realize if you're going to help somebody succeed, it isn't because they have great product to sell, they have to have the motivation to go ‘do’, positive intelligence, time management skills and social media marketing skills.”
Herrin does this through her podcast, “Self Made with Jessica Herrin,” and her online courses, “Self Made University,” where Herrin shares the lessons she learned in business school.
“You can go build marketable, actionable skills. It takes your own initiative,” Herrin said. “It's definitely why we call it ‘self made university.’ If you're willing to show up and you've got the hustle, we'll level up your skills.”
Herrin started her company out of the living room of her home while working full-time and pregnant with her first child. She said sometimes success can be changing your mindset.
“If you're ever in a position of saying 'I don't have enough money to do that,’ you have to flip that and say 'how do I change my situation so I never have to say that?' and get started today doing it."
Herrin has a book out called ‘Find you Extraordinary,’ and said her extraordinary is being able to make an impact and help other people thrive in life.
