NEW YORK — Critics of the NYPD have said the agency’s $1 billion budget cut is just the tip of the iceberg in order to defund the police.

Black Lives Matter activist Hawk Newsome spoke to PIX11 Morning and weighed in on Police Commissioner Dermot Shea’s response to the possible budget cut, calling the NYPD’s top cop “bigoted and biased.”

“It’s an epic failure” with what the city is doing to the people of color and communities of color, Newsome said.

“You do not hear us,” Newsome said of Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Newsome called for an invest in communities and “maybe we’ll see a decrease in crime” as well as replacing school officers with social workers so they can relate to kids rather than exposing them to a jail-type of institute.

“Work with us, young brothers and sisters. Work with us, community. We are defunding the police,” and “now we’re going to have to do a better job in policing ourselves,” Newsome said.
