NEW YORK — Joey Chestnut beat his own record to reclaim the title and defending champion Miki Sudo kept her victory secure in this year’s Fourth of July hot dog eating contest on Coney Island’s famed boardwalk.

Thousands of people flocked to Nathan’s Famous on Monday for the annual scarfing of buns and dogs.

Sudo beat out three-time winner Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas in the women’s competition with 38.5 hot dogs, according to Major League Eating. The defending champion, Sudo won last year’s competition with 38 dogs.

Thomas, who has reigned supreme three times, followed in second place with 35 hot dogs eating in 10 minutes.

Of particular note in the men’s competition was a second face-off between Joey “Jaws” Chestnut and defending champ Matt “The Megatoad” Stonie.

Chestnut set the world record by eating 69 dogs in 10 minutes in 2013. He won eight straight competitions in a row before losing the Mustard Yellow International Belt to Stonie last year in an upset.

This year, Chestnut reclaimed the title and broke his own record — scarfing down 70 hot dogs in 10 minutes.
