NEW YORK — Two NYPD officers are being hailed as heroes for helping talk a teenager out of suicide Saturday afternoon.

Police received a call around 3:30 p.m., that there was a suicidal male on the Manhattan Bridge.

Detective John DiGergorio and Officer Michael Urbanek, both of the Emergency Service Unit Truck 8, found the teen standing on the wrought iron fence and holding the chain-link fence while leaning back.

The officers found a safe area where they could talk to the 17-year-old man.

The teen expressed his concerns to the officers, who promised they would get him the help he needed. One of the officers said he would climb over the fence to get to the teen.

The teenager then climbed back over the fence and joined the officers.

He was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment.
