Torrington, CT — A man and woman from Torrington are facing charges after police said they are accused of driving with three children in the trunk of a car.

It happened at a Cumberland Farms on South Main Street in Torrington earlier this month.

Police said 34-year-old John David Harvey and his stepdaughter, 20-year-old Adrianna Nordin, were pulled over by police after eyewitnesses spotted three children climbing into the trunk of their car that then drove away.

Tony DiLeone was at the Cumberland Farms when he saw the woman allegedly close the trunk with the children inside, and then the car left.

“I looked in the rear view mirror and I see three kids in the trunk. I turn to my wife and almost had to do a double take,” DiLeone said, adding that he called 911, and so did other eyewitnesses.

Police said Harvey drove to Waterbury with three children in the trunk, which is about 20 miles away.

According to police, there were seven people in the car, with two of them being Harvey and Nordin.

Harvey’s attorney said it was poor judgment, but some said it was a lot more than that.

The children did not report any injuries to police. Out of the five children in the vehicle, three of them are related to Harvey.

Harvey and Nordin were charged with one count of breach of peace and three counts of risk of injury charges on Sept. 13.

After being arraigned earlier this month, the couple will return to Bantam Superior Court on Oct. 7. They have not entered pleas.
