LONG ISLAND CITY, Queens — A Queens man was arrested after police say he drove his car for a mile on the Long Island Rail Road train tracks.
Ronny Mora, 25, of Corona allegedly drove his car onto the tracks in the area of Borden Avenue in Long Island City around 11 p.m., Sunday evening. Mora, who police say was apparently drunk, drove nearly a mile until his car burst into flames.
He then abandoned his car and walked to the Hunterspoint Avenue station where he told LIRR employees that he was “sorry” for leaving his car on the tracks.
The MTA was forced to suspend service between Penn Station and Jamaica for nearly three hours as they put out the fire and fixed the damaged third rail.
Mora was charged with unlawful interference with a train, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, criminal trespassing, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
