NEWARK, N.J.— One of the three teens who escaped from a northern New Jersey detention center has been arrested in Newark.
Authorities say the boy was caught Monday and taken to Essex Juvenile Detention Center. Investigators believe the other two boys are also in the city.
The boys — a 15-year-old and two 17-year-olds, all from Newark — fled from the minimum-security Green Residential Community Home in Ringwood on June 28. They were being held on probation violations.
Authorities say the teens attacked a 71-year-old employee and stole his keys. They drove off in his van with a 29-year-old woman in the backseat.
The employee and the woman weren’t injured. She and the van were found in Newark last week.
State officials launched a review in the wake of the escape.
