BROOKLYN — Police are searching for a man who they say threw fireworks into an unattended NYPD police cruiser in Brooklyn.

It happened just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Police say the man tossed a consumer-grade aerial shell firework into the cruiser. The interior of the car caught fire, causing damage to the seats and center console, police said.

The culprit is described as a black male with a thin build and a short haircut. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and dark-colored pants.

Anyone with information is urged to call NYPD’s anonymous Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
