UPPER WEST SIDE (PIX11)-- Some very special children on the Upper West Side got to enjoy an amazing event after school Wednesday.
Students at P.S. 163 who are too shy to read in front of an audience instead read in front of a pair of Havanese dogs.
The pups have been part of the JCC Manhattan's Gift of Literacy program at the elementary school for seven years.
They make perfect listeners for the timid second-graders because they don't giggle or tease them like children might.
Children will be able to read to the dogs every Wednesday for an hour until May.
