FORT GREENE (PIX11)-- Fort Greene resident Abby Weissman was so fed up with dog waste on his stoop, he decided to set up a curb cam to catch careless dog owners in the act.

Last month he captured a woman who failed to clean up after her dog.

He posted the video on the South Oxford Street Block Association’s Facebook page and encouraged neighbors to do the same.

Justin Schultz lives on South Oxford Street and thought Weissman had a great idea. “You're not supposed to be allowing your dog to make a mess on the streets we walk on,” Schultz said, “so I guess I'm ok with shaming that person.”

Dog waste is more than just a pain to see, smell and step in. In New York City dog walkers must pick up after their pets – it’s the law. Violations can ring up to $250 dollars.

Fort Greene resident and dog owner Chris Cobb thinks there’s a better way to solve their neighborhood’s dog mess without using social media, “I think pet owners should be contentious and pick up after their dogs,” Cobb said.
