On July 4, 1993, the city was abuzz not with talk of fireworks or shore getaways. No, something far more interesting had happened: An advertising blimp with a hole in its side crashed into the roof of a Manhattan building, where sunbathers catching Independence Day rays got a special delivery from the Pizza Hut blimp.  Fortunately, they were not hurt, and the pilots sustained minor injuries.

PIX11 was inspired to dig up its original coverage of the case from our basement vault by a piece in the New York Times on Thursday. Check out City Room's recollection of the crash HERE and here's the original Times story. Our coverage is from a followup to the story, introduced by Kaity Tong, that aired on July 5, 1993.
