The big question of the day: Will Luna Park be open entirely in time for July 4th? The answer: Maybe.
As of this writing, Luna Park says that portions of the park will be open Wednesday at noon, meaning park goers will be able to enjoy the Scream Zone, the Coney Island Raceway and the B&B Carousel.
If the famed Cyclone will be open is still uncertain due to its close proximity to the Astrotower.
Luna Park posted this message on their Facebook page Tuesday evening: “ The NYC Buildings Department has announced the Astrotower is stable an poses no immediate risk.”
However, the Department of Buildings says they are sending out investigators again Wednesday and that the “investigation is ongoing.”
Of course, all the frenzy and attention to the 275-foot Astrotower came Tuesday when the tower was scene swaying side to side in the wind. A concerned visitor phoned it in and the park was evacuated out of an abundance of caution as the stability of the structure was investigated.
The thing is, the tower has swayed before. PIX11 found a Youtube video of the tower swinging back in March of 2012. Luna Park hinted that they are aware the tower sways saying in a statement, “The swaying of the Astrotower was more pronounced than usual, but it is still considered stable.
So, will the Cyclone be open for the big holiday? That answer is still to be determined.
